Progress

Well it has been a long time since I have updated my blog but the main reason for that is that I have been excercising so have had sod all time for anything else.

Since I last posted I have been giving the go ahead to resume to full training which I am chuffed to bits with. I am back in the gym full time and have even played football.

I have been in the gym pretty much every other day for the last 3 weeks now and have made a hell of an improvement to my strength. This has really made me feel confident that I can get fitter. I have only been doing limited cardio (1 mile @ 9m30) on the treadmill until the strength in my left knee has fully built up and the tendonitis has fully gone. This is gradually going and I may even try a 30 minute light jog on the roads on Sunday. Someone needs to hold me to this though!

Over the last 2 nights I have played 5-a-side twice for at least an hour a time. Amazingly my form has been alright and it's just fitness that has let me down in the final 20 minutes of games. I have also took quite a few kicks and knocks to my legs, back, hip and chest and none of them caused any injury so it's another good sign that I am getting there. I am extremely tired though.

My next step is to do some light jogging and cycling to work. Cycling is my main problem as it is the thing that keeps me the fittest but cycling on Bristol's road isn't the safest thing to do. As soon as the evenings start to get lighter I think that I will overcome my mental block and get back to something I really enjoy doing it. I guess that in this case it is the first steps are the hardest.

Finally, I have also measured my fitness statisctics (weight, BMI, body fat etc) every Sunday over the last few weeks and once I am fitter I will  release the results so I can show the improvment. At the moment they are just for me to give myself the kick up the ass I need.

New Year and just over a year to go

I managed to drink my own body weight over Christmas. Some feat when I weigh as much as I do. Unfortunately this isn't likely to let up with a weekend to Blackpool coming up. After that I will then be sober until my birthday (at least) which is 7 weeks away.

Even though I managed to drink so much over Christmas I have managed to maintain my weight which is  better than I thought I would do. Now the hard work starts of trying to lose the pounds. Especially to get under the first mental barrier of 15st.

Over Christmas I didn't really put in much training, mainly due to injury and otherwise due to hangovers. What I did manage to do was put in a decent 10k walk looping to Keynsham and back. http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/163933752

This is going to be my main 10k route and it's one that I enjoy. I intend to walk it a few times before I start to run it. Literally walking before I can run.

I have also done a really adult thing and purchased an entire year's gym membership up front. No excuses now. It's also back in the gym that I achieved my fittest yet so hopefully it will add to the motiviation.

On the injury front my hamstring feels about 80% fixed but I still get tightness now and again. My knee on the other hand is very tight and has caused me lots of problems over the last few weeks. I have another physio session tomorrow so hopefully that will help on easing it out.

Here is to a year of hard but fun work.
